Themes

Sanitation and Innovation for Economic Development

The sanitation challenge in Nigeria is unique in that although 46 million Nigerians do not have access to safely managed sanitation facilities, The Federal Government has exercised the highest levels of political will to resolve the crisis.

Investing in WASH has been thematic this year, with an amplified call to the private sector. There are innovative ways to bridge the financial, efficiency and sustainability gaps in the sector through a collaborative and focused approach.

This is why the theme for the 2022 World Toilet Summit – “Sanitation Innovations for Economic Development” is apt. The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and The Nigerian Government at large are eager to centre the conversation around accelerating progress in WASH for the betterment of the economy.

Join the global discussion which will cover:

  • The relationship between the basic human right to water, sanitation and hygiene and the economy.
  • Scaling up the sanitation economy.
  • Sanitation financial models for Economic Development.
  • Scaling up the Nigerian Sanitation Economy for National Development

We want the World Toilet Summit 2022 in Abuja to be the key event for an African Toilet Revolution to improve the state of Sanitation all over Nigeria and all over Africa.

Hon. Suleiman Hussein Adamu

Minister of Water Resources

Nigeria as the host country for 2022 World Toilet Summit is a welcome development.

The choice of Nigeria to host the Summit is coming at a period when Nigeria has made concrete plans to exit from the comity of nations practising open defecation. Nigeria needs all necessary support to ensure that the ODF Campaign gains traction with all stakeholders playing their part.

Dr. Nicholas Igwe

OPS-WASH National Coordinator

The choice of Nigeria for the summit is a clear endorsement of the commitment and political will of the Federal Government towards Water, Sanitation and Hygiene delivery in Nigeria.

This is a great opportunity for the private sector to showcase the critical roles they can play in driving the sanitation economy while also facilitating job creation. The summit will bring a global audience with fantastic technologies aimed at bridging the huge gaps in the sector.

Learn about the Sanitation Market

The Organized Private Sector has long championed the notion that we must build sustainable and economically-viable strategies in order to overcome the huge financial, sustainability and efficiency gaps in Nigeria’s WASH Sector.

Share your technologies and strategies

This year we are taking on the sanitation crisis from an economic and private sector led. We encourage you to showcase your products, technologies and strategies that will catapult Nigeria out of its position as the number one country with an open-toilet system.
